fer Admiralty purposes at Immingham. We do not profess to have any special, kowledge as to the terme asked, either by the projectors of the Immingham Dock or of that upon the Tyne, but we fear that a somewhat narreir view has been taken by the Admiralty in this matter. There is some basis for this assumption; as the Civil Lord contended, that it might be well worth the while of the great shipbuilders on the Tyne to construct a graving-dock which would hold the largest ship, considering the fabt that ou the Tyna there was such an im portant and busy shipbuilding community. As a matter of fact, there already exists on the Tyne a dock which meets the socessities of the builders even of Draad noughts, and, the dock proposed for Im mingham will meet the normal needs of the commercial hasbour for many years, The Admiralty wants are far in advance of the ordinary requirements of even a warship building firm. A dock such as that which now exiers at Hebburn-ou-Tyno;) is quite capable of taking a battleship preparatory to her trial, with 2 ft.

3 ft. of water to spare over the sill for the reason that the vessel, while yet in the builder's hands, without her was stores, and need never be fully inden except with water-ballast, which is easily remorable for docking. On the other hand, the Admiralty daze not contemplate the epending of money on a dock with a less deptir than would take a ship in a water-
