For about two years there a been con- alderable ill-feeling between two villages in the Shin Tak district over sorre dispute about silkworms. Kecently this came to a

head and each summoned to i ́s assistance certain other villages. The Gghting began on the 20th inst. and it is said to be still going on. Altogether fifteen villages are engaged in it, and they have a good upply of guns and ammunition. The Shan Tak magistrate summoned all the oldiers in his district (about 309), but their number was of no ore against the several thousand villagers that were en gaged in the fighting, and so he has asked Viceroy Chang to send, two regiments to his nazistance.
