CAUGHT IN THE ACT.
Chan Li pleaded not guilty at the Oriminal Sessions, before the Chief Justice Sir Francis Piggott, today, to a charge of armed robbery at Cochrane Street.
The same jury were sworn as in the
other cases.
The Hon Attorney General said that prisoner in company with two other men went to the place, which tras a coolis's mess, about 11 30 in the morning. All the coulies were out except the cook, whom they bound; but fortunately he managed to free his legs and run out of the place calling for help. The robbers were soon coming out and the prisoner was carrying a box whieh he dropped on seeing a policeman who subsequently arrested him.
Evidence was then called. Prisoner was sentenced to five years' hard labour and twenty-four strokes of the birch.
