In conclusion, ha remarked that in Capetown when an outbreak of plague recoured they depended to a largo extent upon bird-lime for catching rats, and gave some notes regarding its use. The ordinary bird time proved of very little use but the best Japaneso bird-limo gave ex- wellent results.

To say that the performance of "The "Quisha,” given at the Club Lositano by! the children of the members, in honour of Vice Admiral Sir Redworth Lambton, on Saturday evening, was a great success, ia but a mild compliment to the admimble efforts of these juveniles, who catered into the spirit of the picce with an enthusiasm that was bound to bo successful. The perfor mancs, if indeed it were possible, eclipsed phase of the previous occasions, severał now songs being introduced. Little Mollie ** simply captivated the audience, composed as it was for the most part of Officers of the Navy and Army, together with their ladies, and was accorded unstinted applause for her clover singing and dancing. Iu responding to an encore sha sang "Mollie I love with all the fervour and attractive. ness of an adult and she was deservedly recalled. Mimosa," too, find a great re- seption and responded to the calls for an encore to the exquisite rendering of "The Jawe of Asia," with "Under the Deodar," which she sang most charmingly. **Woo H was nozie the lese successful and had to respond to encores while all the choruses were sweetly rendered. The English off- cers were also good and amp in for their due share of appreciation and amongst the ibutes bestowed leo wan by sailor's olup knife cach, given by Com- modore, Mrs and Miss Lyon, who were ast the audience, with the Officers FEDDER STREET-ADJOINING MAIN ENTRANCE HONGKONG HOTEL.
