A POPULAR CLERGYMAN

Sciatica, Stiffness,

Nervous and Muscular Fatigue-

The remarkable public appreciation of the important letters appearing in this announcement week by week, is due to the absolute reliability of the experiences narrated. The very people we all know and feci we can trust, in whose word we have implicit confidence, those people, the Doctors, Nurses, Clergymen, came forward and emphatically assure us of the exceptional efficacy of Phosforine. Recently it was the Matron of an Ipswich Infirmary, then followed the striking testimony of Dr. Butler, and now in to-day's letter the Vicar of a large parish recognises the isaamerable benefits which unfailingly result from a course of Phosferine. This last correspondent, the Rev. W. Thwaites, says that be found Phosferine to be of the greatest value in remedying and preventing Sciatica, and alsu particularly serviceable in dispelling nervous and muscular fatigue, and strengthening the system generally. Such frequent assurances from Clerical and Medical sources, of the energising properties of Phosferice, not only guarantee its remedial effects, but also enable readers who select the famoue nerve tonic, to anticipate certain recovery and avoid suffering, loss of time, and worry of uncertain results.

The Rev. Wm. Thwaites, Egremont Rectory, Cumberland, writes...... "I have found from long experience that Phosforine is of the greatest value, for not only throwing off a threatened attack of Sciatica, but for enabling me to accomplish any great physical strain like a long cycle zide) with ease and comfort. For some weeks back I have had a peculiar stiffness in my joints, arising from hard cycling I thought, but I dosed myself with Phosferine with the result that within 24 hours the pain bad gone. Phosferine gives strength to the nervous and mascular system and as a rule I can feel the benefit in five hours."—July 6, 1908-

The "Manchester Dispatch" solemnly records a story in that murky city as illustrating the difficulties besetting the paths of missionaries to the Chinese. There has been a movement to bring together the Chinese community in Mane chester, each them Engish and bring them under Christian: infcence. Well, the other day only one Chinaman turucu up at the religious sorrice. He was of course asked what was the matter with his friends, and he replied that there had boon sickness in the Chinese community which was at onco sot down to evil spirits, and at last the Chinese had come to the conclusion that the anger of the spirita had been roused by their desertion of the faith of their ancestors for that of the barbarians.'

Sir Robert Hart is still on the round of entertainments and seems to be engaged aa the star performer at after diamer oratory for datos far into next year. His last appearancow as on Saturday night, when he joined the Savage Club at dinner and reesived the plaudits of a mingled company of the law, the stage, art and literaturo.

He said he admired some of the institu tions of Chins immensely. One, for in- stanco, was the manner in which thanks were returned after a feast. The guest merely made a pelito bow to his hont, aid “Thank you”, and went away without any long speech about it.

Many of the dishes provided were very eurious. A friend told him that in one part of China as the end of a feast the bead of a rat was presented to each guest
