DISCIPLINE AND ORGANIZATION. —The dis- ciplina is excolient as far as the European ninsters are concerned but the Chinese masters should be very much stricter, the more so as most of the classes are very

large.

ORGANIZATION.Good. The staff might be strengthened by an additional English master. Some of the classes are too farge.

SANITATION. Satisfactory. -APPARATUS,—Very satisfactory.

FLOOR BRACE.-Sufficient for 1076 pupils. ENGLISH READING ---Good un the whole, Very good in clans I.

Comoquran-Very good in class I, good in II and III, fair in the remaining classes. (There are IX in all). Objects should be better known in class IX.

COMPOSITION ----Good in classes I, III and IX (scutonces) very fair in 11, III and VL and poor in V. VII and VIII. It is a great pity that boys who are so well up in gram- mer should fail to apply their knowledge of that subject to their composition. In oldes I the beays were too short. Chase II should be able to write an essay and class III letter, instead of merely reproducing stories.

DICTATION. Very good to good except in classes V and VIII.

GRAMMAR.Very good to good through out the school. It should be impressed upon the pupils that it is useless to learn rules unless they apply them to their written work, especially to composition.

GEOGRAPHY.-Good in classes I to VI Weak in the three lowest classes. In the latter maps are not used as freely as they should be.

should be noted -

(1) More use should be made of short mothods of calculation.

(2) More care should be taken in draw ing diagrams.
