To-night's Play.

To-night the Company are giving as for the third time & play from the pen of Mr Somerset Maughan. We have already bad "Lady Frederick" and "Mrs Dot," and now we are to see "Jack Straw," a piece which is still delighting London audiences. *Juck Straw," a foreign waiter, is in- duced by Lady Wanley and Arabrose Hol- land, to pass himself off as an aristocrat in order to give a lesson to the Parker. Jenning's family, who possess millions of money and the low manners of the class from which matamon has uplifted them. Incidentally it must be mentioned the gentleman has met the waiter before in the wilds of America, where he knew him well as Jack Straw. The waiter chooses to be passed off as an Archduke, who has been missing for four years and en ters into the game because he finds he has fallen in love with Miss Parker-Jennings, who resents the ill-mannerisms of her folk. The Archduke is introduced to the Parker- -Jonninge family and is received with royal acclamation. He accepte au invita- tion to their country house and Mrs Par- ker-Jennings, who wishes to show the country what her money can do gives a garden party to which all the county go. In the meantime Lady Wanley and Am brose Holland finding Jack Straw has been going further than they wished him ask hum to throw it up and clear cat. Jack Straw to their great chagrin absolutely refuses and as a last resource Ambrose .confesses his complicity in the imposition. The situation becomes ludicrously funny when Jack Straw refuses to leave the house and insists upon keeping up the part of the Archduke. Matters are very complicated at the time as the foreign Ambassador arrives at the house and Jack Straw dumbfounds everybody by meeting his country's Ambassador on the most friendly terms. The last act shown every- one entreating Jack Straw to leave the house peacefully. To them all Jack taens a deaf ear, coolly informing them that he

in vory comfortable. Matters are brought to a climax by the return of the Ambassa- dor, when the latter on being told of the imposition tells the company most empha- tically that Jack/Straw is the real "kroð. duke, but owing to a difference with his royal father four years ago, over his desize to marry a girl from the stage left his¦

country and had been leading a zosming life since. His father is now reconciled
