eighteenth contury infidelity; in the nine- teenth love of money, and perhaps in tlais twentieth century it is lore of pleasure. Whatever it many be, the Christian, in every plies and in every age, may overcome is He is not brand by its nusxius, enslaved by requested to attend the OPENING its pleasures, austbed by its treasures nor alarmed by its threats. Our faith is the neans of his vicky. Now what do we mean by our faith it is unt our acceptance of Christian dogmas. Many a slave of the world can conscientiously recite the Apos He's Creed. It is not blind submission to the Church's Authority--many a devoted Churchrau finds that ho daca not es- cape from the spirit of the world when he enters the Church. It is fray, a spiritual vision of Unesca Roalities. Moses triumphed by faith, for wo tre koki be endured, us seeing Him who is invisible. The tendency of our day is to make to much of material things, that a vision of spiritual things is regarded as superfoun but it is not. A vision of things spiritual helps us in our life below. As Bishop Westcott said:"It is by the introduction of the spiritund and the cterial that we obtain a true standard for things and so ca overcome the temptations which spring out cfanauw, oarthly, temporal estimate. Set- andly. this overcoming faith is a confiding trust in Personal God. By it we appro hend a loving Father, masent Baviour, a ESTATE OF BEY HOPE LEE, DECEASED. teas Comforter. The incarnation is, to us, a real event, the resurrection an actual NOTICE IS HEREBY GIVEN to all BEY HOPE fact, and the Presence of God a great creditors and debtors reality, a matraining influence and an in- spiring power. This faith looks back to the great triumph of the past-it looks up to the Paradise of God-it looks forward to the time whim the kingdoms of this world shall certainly become the king- doms of cur Lord and of is Christ. The Bishop, in conclusion, enforced his point by shewing the cotxet between Lilysses mothod of resisting the deadly eharms of the sirens, namely, by stepping with wax the ears of his sailors and that of the Argonauts, who had on board their vessel Orphans with his lyre, whose music was more encluating than that of the sires. And so we overcome the world, Bot by forcibly stopping our ears to the world's ntnctions, hut by having with us the all-absorbing Prosense of the Christ, and by having our ears ever open to the THE greater attraction and sweeter music of his voice, and this is the victory that orercometh the world, even om Faich.
