CANTON AND THE CAPITAL."
It is reported in the native papers that Z. E. Chang, the Canton Viceroy, has sent of two trusty supportens to Peking to learn etrus condition of affairs. These are Isik Pik-shan, and Chang In-chi. They aru familiar with Teking and know the ins and outs of palace life. The Viceroy' sont them of in a hurry, instructing them to keep in touch with what is going on, and ta sectire by means of spies all infurrontion that will show the trend of events in Pok ing.
Accowling to the same authority. many disquiating rumam are alloat. As is already known all private telegrams are onrufully serutinised and are refusel tranemisih if containing political ad usions. Further, all official messages urė consored, and only such information as ideemed harmloss is passed. Never- tholasa, it appears that the Viceroy kas received private messages, and 'in con- } equence of the private messages has lakon this important stop. It is said that Lone of eunuchs have heon beaten to death. All financial matters are asid to be in con- fusion, and persons holding rates on the #avara) nativo banks have bastened to have
en changed, and as the banks have net reservos kullicient to meet this immediato demand, things are looking bed for marry of them. On the other hand, those who kave money on fixed deposit are trying to get it out at a great loss. Of course, these rumours and reports. may not bo, al- together well-grounded, but it is likely there may be some truth in them, and chut the Viceroy fears they may be more or less correct, or he would not have gone to the troublu af sending on two special ease ngars to look into affairs. The same report states hat in the inner palaco, which is closely guarded, affairs are nigre tangled st., and though no very clear knowledge can be obtained, yet there is a suspicion that much confusion prevails.
