During the winter months a new form of

authorities are inclined to believe that purely athletic exercises will keep the men fit and well during the non-drill season better than route marching along country roada. Accordingly a trial will be, miado pf substituting crosscountry running for the present marching axercises, and at the and of the winter a coasparison will be made of the man so trained against those trained in the ordinary route marching.
It is proposed to split up a battalion into "packs," which will be made or ac curding to the various standards of poed. There will be fast, medium, and slow packs with variations to cuch of these main classes ranging from “very slow." to **very fast."
