The Chairmaninintroducingthe speakers, remarked that the two ladies came from a part of the field which was formerly his awn particular sphere of work; 28 years ago there were no Christians in that vast dis- trict, but now there are Christinus in overy county. Continuing, he said that Miss Bryer was one of three ladies who had rendered great service to the missionary cause of late years by translating the Scriptures into the tongue of the common people, and by using Roman characters had made it possible for people to read the 816 Word of God who could not learn intricate Chinese characters. The other two ladies referred to are Mrs Beauchamp, and Mrs Horder of Pakbot.
