Its power is such that it could perforate
any armour.
The gun is of the simplest construction. It is fired without powder, smoke, or re- coil. The, deck of the lightest merchant vossol would serve as a gun platform. With the airship as its scout, to signal whether shots were hitting or going wide of their mark, this quickest of all quickfiring gums, with a practically unlimited range, promises to revolutionise the warfare of the future,. and to hasten the reign of peace, when the terrors of war will abolish war altogether.
RESULT OF EXPERIMENTS.. -
To-day almost everybody has travelled on an electric tube train. In that electric tube train lies the whole secret of the electric gun. Imagine the tube to be the gun and the train to be the projectile. Tho train weighs somewhere about 120 bone. That train can be started from rest, and in somewhere about 100ft....can be made to travel at the speed of forty miles an hour. If the tin weighed no more than a shell fred by a big gun, and the same force were applied to it as is at present applied to 120 tons, then one can easily imagine the enormous speed that could be obtained. For instance, our 120-ton train reaches a speed of two thirds of a mile a minute, or one-ninetieth of a mile's second.
It needs no great power of imagination for the most unscientiño mind to grasp that a lighter weight can be made to travel aix or seven miles a scoond or all that is necessary to obtain the high wazzle velo city which would give the new electric gun its terrible power...
The weapon with which the experiments haye been made so far is one of about 10ft. in length, and capable of firing a shell of about 50b, though the actual one used was only bib, in weight.
