Sailors' Terrible Privations,
The story of the wreck of the Eclipse aid of the sufferings of her crew, reached Queenstown on March 11. The Eclipse, # vessel of 1460 tons, was on a voyage from Newcastle to San Francisco, when, aftor 85 daya at sea, she was overtaken by a terrific hurricane, accompanied by thunder and lightning. At the height of the storm,
thunderbolt struck her foretopmast, which was shattered, and then ersted through the deck, making a hole in the vessel, through which this res pource rapidly. For four days and nights the crew worked at the pumps, but, their efforts failing to keep the ship afloat. Captain Larsen and his äfteen men took to the boats. A few hours later they saw the {ship founder.
