The Chinaman is primarily a farmor, and there are certainly openings enough for him at home to relieve the rest of the world of any apprehension of being submerged by his wholesale migration. When he becomes a verkar in the great mechanical industries that are being born within the limits of the empire the pricu of his labour must advanco, and, to that extent, the temptation to migrato becomes less. But even for the inelulgence of a migratory instinct there is room enough in Southern Asia whore ho is welcome to relieve him the necessity of going whore he is regardł ̈ ̈ns undesirable. There is Bornou with an area-
of 284,000 square miles; equal to the Staten
of Michigan, Indian, Illinois, Wisconsin
and Minnesota combined. Here is one of
