A German export journal having publish ed an article on the advantage to be derived from the export of fish (particularly salman, with which tho River Amur and its tribu- tarios abound) from the Far Faust to Enrope, the question of a return freight Pige has given rise to the suggestion that the deposite of rock silt to be found in Turkey might very well bo turned to account. It is added that the salmon of the Aur, | owing to its high quality, has won a favour- nable position on the St. Petersburg, London and Hamburg- markets, though hitherta only in small quantities. The chief obstacle to the disposal of large quantities of Ainur River Salmon, independent of the great distance and the backing up of the Ni- Lolnietisk port with ice, is the absence of rock-salt on the spot, which is an requisito for keeping fish during long voyages,
Up till recently the demand for salt in the Far East was mostly satisfied by supplies, from Hamborg, of Gorman origin, and the firms engaged in this truly sn monopolised it as to be able to gradually raise the price to such a point as to actually interfere with their own trade. This situation prompted the Russischer Import Combination to wok other sources of rock-salt supply for the Far East; and 1877 this firm has fixed its affections on the deposits to be found on the Turkish simro of the Red Sex, It has already made arrangement with the chief authority-the "Dotte Publique, in Constantinople. It is further proposed to develop the exchange of goods between Turkey and the Far East by bringing timber home to Turkey in exabange for the salt.
