It is recounted of Mr Pierpont Morgan that he once did a poor man a good turn by buying - his share in a lettery. The share won tlie prizes, and Mr Morgan was so delighted with the result of his charity that he told the man he would give him £2,000 a year for life. Instead of showing gratitude, the man said he would profer £4,000 down. "But why?" asked the astonished millionaire. Because," was- the reply.
