loose play was shown. Tugwell was call-ous from O. VONDEN BEYDE, Esq., ed upon to stop a couple of excollant shots to sell by Public Auction, which came from the left forwards, and
once he missed the tall completely, but luck was on his side and it stewed away from instead of into the net. The King Alfred's supporters breathed more freely when Gale seat the ball up-fald. A most exciting time occurred just in front of the Monmouth's goal. A sustained attack was kept up for several secunde and half, a dozen good shots at goal made, but each time the Monmoutha managed to get the ball away, though they had nothing to
spare.
Is the second half play, was of a more evo antore than in the first and good play was shown by the Monmouth tear though they failed to score. They were more often in attack than tho King Alfred, in the first few minutes, but towards the close of the spell the wearers of the white ware In the ascendant. Times out of number the Monmouth's right back, one of the best hacks playing in the Colony, saved his wide whon the King Alfreds were pressing closely, but he could not keep them out by himself and he did not get a great deal of support from the remaining members of the team. Finally, some little time before the match ended, another goal was scorod, Evana besting the coal-keeper with a shot from close quarters, and the King Alfreds finished up winners by two goals to mil. Though they deserved their win the play shown by the King Alfred team did not refect much credit upon thes. They were without their usual centre-forward, but
Evans, the substitute, played a safe game,
He did not throw away many chances.
