A passenger steamer has been wreck- er off the Hook of Holland, near Rotter- dam, and of the passengers and crew 140 are reported drowned.

Among the list of passengers is the name of Mr H. Broderson, of Hong- kong.

(Mr Brodorion was an old-resident of the Colony and is extremely well known in the East, especially among the shipping communities of Shanghai and Hongkong, for he has been connected with German: shipping firms in the Far East since; August, 1890, when fio first came to Hong kong to join the local office of Messrs Siemsson and Company. He reuniued with this firm until 1897, when he left to go to Shanghai, accepting a position with Messrs Arnhold, Karborg and Company at that port. For three years he remained in their employ, but, becoming connected with the Dotal Petroleum Company, ha returned to Hongkong and went into Messrs Moyer and Company's office, whore he has boon ever since.
