Your Excelloney, Mr President, Ladies
you the sixth annual report of the Society's Hongkong College for the reason that in apvoral ways the scholastic poriod under review marka s distinct advance on any preceding year. For Government Grant in Aid purposes the College year terminated on 30th June and in the course of thint month the Inspector of Schools, Mr B. A. Irving, made his annual examination and subsequently reported to the Govern- ment. The average daily attendance was 319.03 compared with 267.67 in the previous year, an increase of nearly 20 per 'cant, while the grant rose from £401 to £478. The weakness of the European staff mentioned in the second paragraph of the report has since been remedied. On the resumption of college duties after the mid summer holidays our teaching strength: was augmented by the engagement of two additional mastors. Messrs Nicolson and: Barlow. Mr Nicolson, who came directly from home, is a Master of Arts of Glasgow University, a Emined and cortificated teacher. Mir Barlow, who was engaged | locally, had already some experience of Leaching in the Colony. The increased staff permitted the division of the College into three departments-senior, middle and juvior, each in charge of an Eur- opean Master with two or more Anglo- Chineza assistants. By this arrangement it is hoped that those assistants will greatly benefit as they will be able to observe and assimate the methods of teaching adeptod by the heads of the Departments. The") Head Master too has more time and greats". facilities for supervising their work. Mr
