A STATE ADVANCING Br LEAPS AND BOUNDS.
New South Wales han entered upon an. ers of solid prosperity, and is advancing by Insps and bounds. The slue of her pro- ducts won from the soll in the season just olpeed was £40,000,000-marvellous achlovement for slightly over 1,500,000 of people-a result per head not attained by 'any other country paleidę. Australasis. Her trade for the same period. was £4,000,000, or £14 per head, which in nearly double that of any other country in the world. In thirty-five years tha trade of New Equth Wales has ingressed four-fold, hur revenue five-fold, her railway earningsten-fold, and hor popolation thres-fold. Great devolop ment is taking place along the whole range of the agricultural, pastoral, and industriel activition of the State; and the decolor- ment and expansion will provide improved home-marketa and incressed facilities for reaching the foreign consumer. Every immigrant who takes up land and entere upon flib work of production pashes on the piatarial prosperity of the State, in which he himself shares. Though the pastoral and agricultural industries are by far the most valuable in the State, there are other resources of the most important character, which have a considerable influence upon the fortunes of the country,
The nineral resources of the State are. almost boundless. There are limitless coal- Bélds, both on the coset and inland; immerse fron deposits; the marvellous silver-zine. load todes of Broken Hill, the wealth of which le fabulous; rich copper and tin ores, distributed over very wide STOKA; NOVOCE! important gold-Bolåë; opal and diamond mines; sad, some.
choloot marbles the of the
world. Other vainable minerale found in the Stato inolude platizam, cobalt, bioko, manganese, antimony, koro. Bone shale, emeralds, turquelso, and; Happhires. During 1908 the value of the minerale won in New South Wales was 8,812,120, the being an increase of £692,075 over the rotorn for the previous
4
So far as the manufacturing indos tries are concerned, the great col-folds of New South Wales, lying close to splendid sasporta, make it imperative that in time the Stato will be the great manufao uring centro of Austrafasia. Already the iron. traite in, owing to the progressive policy. of the present Government, being placed on a thoroughly sound basis; and with iron and coal in abundance, and a most diversified range of raw materials, natural and produc- ed, New South Wales must become one of the great manufacturing countries of the world. In 1905 the vaine of raw materials was incressed locally by manufacture by over £10,000,000.
