When Governor Head was in office in Now Hampshire, Colonel Barrett, an es timable member of the Governor's staff, died, and there was an unseemly scramble of would-be succesors for the office, even while his body was awaiting burial with military honours.
One candidate, somewhat bolder than the rest, ventured to call upon Governor Head, thinking to ascertain the boat of the Governor's mind upon the important question.
"Governor," he asked, "not to speak ...in a manner too, positive, do you think you would have any objections if I was to get into Colonel Barrett's place?"
The answer came promptly: "No, I don't think I should have any objection, if the undertaker is willing,"
