SPONGES.-
Valuable Discovery At Tawi Towi
A discovery, which promises to be of great importance to the Provinco, Ina heas recently made off the Island of Tawi Tawi, In the Sulu Archipelago, reports the fin- danno Herald. The number of sponges washed ashore by the recent rough weather attracted the attention of the coynunding officer at Tawi Tawi, who secured a fow large specimens, merely as curiosities, at first, but later, upon clase examination they wore discovered to be a very fine quality of sponge.
A survey of the surrounding waters was then made which resulted in the discovery of an abundance of, sponges within a very short distance of the share, in water from four to six fathoms doop.
Samples of the spouses were taken from the water and sout to Jole to be classified, and were pronounced by experts to be of a very high grade. Samples were also sent to Zambing. The specimen seen by the writer was approximately fourteen inches Jong by eight inches broad and of a very tine texture.
