It is amornced in "Le Patrioto" that Hr Stannard, the English missionary, against whom was brought a charge of libelling Major Hagstrom, the Swedish Congolese Commandant, hus been ordered by the court at Coquillatville to pay a fine of 1000 francs (240); and one freno dam

The Res. E. Stannard is a montber of o of the Conge Missions, and was a witness hofom the Commission of Inquiry appointed to investigate the arminist ention of the Congo officials. Mr Stannari and the Rev. J. H. Harris (who led since returned to England) gave evidence on the Bolima massacres, which occurred in 1904, und revonlod a sinte of affairs in the Cogs territory which is scarcely credible. For these revelations Mr Stannard was charged with criminal libel, which, curling to Congolese law, is punishable up to e year's pen hervitude and a fine of 3000 franes-C40. Mr Starvard's »vidence had been fully corroborated by other nesses, including Lontals, the senior cħid i of Bolima.
