Not withstanding that it was a very hot after noon the Reservists turned up in good ambery and bring was cranienced very shortly after 2 o'clock, all four turguta Le ing used.

The conditions of the competition were somewhat novel, and as far as the Volunteer Reservists are concerned provided the first opportunity that they have had of firing at a disappearing target. Each man was re- quired to fire ten rounds at a disappearing target on which the bull's eye was repro- sented by a hasd and shoulders of a man; the rifle being brought to the shoulder after the target had appeared above the mound, where it remained visible for about, four seconds.

a decidedly interesting one, and the very thing that the Reserviste were in weat of. Of course it goes without saying that a marksman who becomes proficient at this kind of shooting would be of more service in war time than one who was only accustomed to shooting at a fixed target.

Generally it was declared that there was ample time to aim, and that after a little practice a good number of the Reservists will become jast se proficient at the disap- poaring target as they have proved them- selves to be at the ordinary range. Indeed some of the stores are alrealy very good. Mr J. Pigrou secured a total of seven bita out of his ten shots and Mr P. P. J. Wodehouse only one leas. Mr E W. Terry came nart with four, Mr G. H. Wakeman and Sir Francis Piggott and Mr Evan-Jones were amongst those who got three, while numerous others got two, and one. According to the marker many of the shots that had to be given as misses 3rd Inet, at 6 p.m.
