MATTERS FEMININE
June and the coming hot months calls for everything, lovely and fairy-like,' as indeed are this season's fabrics, some of the new silks being of cob-web` fineness, Sole de Ninon is a most lovely silken gauze.
like fabric.
There is a fancy for checked silks as well as pin-spot fabrios; and, owing to the flimsiness of the materials, flounces have returned to favour; for the airy textures necessitate much inoro elaborato trimmings than do the more sübstanial manufactures. The fine line check voiles are v
very popular. Foulards are also in evidence, more especially the large pattern ones and those with big spots. Tussore silk is in favour, the écru or brownish being very fasionable. Embroidered linen gowns are much worn. The summer fashions really favour rather short waists, much trimmed skirts for thin materials, untrimmed skirts- for substantial materials.
Some of the newest skirts are flounced to the knees, others have three wide inki sertions of lace let in one just above the hem, another just beneath the knees and one mid-way between them and waist.:
Plato has said that each human being is in himself, or herself, the great year. There is the human sowing time, the grow- ing time, the woeding time (what a troublous time that is apt to be), the irrigating, and the' harvest.
The principals and ideas wo put, or have put into our minds when young, lie there- it may be for years-apparently unprolific.

Tabtai Yuan Yuan-tai, son of Viceroy Yuan, left Mukden for Chinchou-fu and
beyond, on the 22nd ult., with two bat-
talions of the Fengtien army, to join with the detachments of the Peiyang Luchun, or new Land Forces, for the suppression of the Hunghutzes, as instructed by Viceroy Tuan, on account of the large number of these bandits who are infesting cities and towns on the Manchu-Mongol frontiers.
Major-General Chang Hsun, command. ing ten battalions of the Huai Chun, is starting directly for Mongolia with his troops from Hsinmin-fu, to attack the Hunghutzes, and these two separate forces after forming a junction with the Peiyang Lu Chun, will try to surround the bandits
