She press ed the glove to her forehead, and it turned her faint. She also felt a pricking upon her finger; then her heart stopped beating. This happened because of the Svit “núta of the glave, Madam Cavalier, äftor these minifestations, read the aura like an open page. The Italian lady had, by her first marriage, a son, upon whom, when her husband died, she settled a large sum of money. Then she married again. Is was then discovered that this careless priest had not changed his clothes; so that the maleficent aura" of the Brahmin diffuse itself from him just the same. It took that priest eighteen months of continual ablation to wash off that aura. Then came an Eng gllehman who collected Idols. After some trouble, he was enabled to find and to dig. up the Axtec. He took it home-inelde week his child died. He carried the idol round the world, and bad luck dogged him, All his hotels were uncomfortable, and he was always being robbed. At laat even the proud Englishman was compelled to admit the actively evil propensities of the Aztek Idol. So we see that God has made every thing living, and not dead, as we falsely виррово

THE PLUTOCBAT AND THE HEIRLOOM. At the conclusion of the lecture there young was a discussion. A black-browed you man arose and asked if an heirloom consisting, say, of jewels, which ha acquired beneficent aurs by long associa tion with worthy people, which had been sold second hand, and which had been bought by a "plutocrat," would-the abra! young man desired to know-the -* be able beneficently to influence the plutocrat. The answer was: Yes, it would. A lady wished to be assured if the practico of "intuition" would act as a protection against ovil auras. The anewer was not co decisive. "If you meet a sorpent," said the lecturer, "the best thing to do is to have a prayer ready." Serpents, it seemą, do not understand intuition. But the lady had not asked about serpents. She prefer- red to stick to intuition. So, on the whole, lid one other at least among the audience.

Shipwreck in the Southern Seas.

A strange story of shipwreck, with details vivid enough for inclusion in another "Treasure Island," was brought to the British Islande early in May by the Cunar der "Ivernia," which touched, at Queene. town. The schooner "Tahitienne," with

a crow of eleven, was bound for one of the. small islands in the South Pacific. A

squall dismasted her, and the crew aban- doned the sinking vessel.

The boats having gone by the board, they constructed a raft. The raft was very small, and, although they huddled together as close as

they could, some had to sit with their legs in the water. They took turns for these position;

The men had neither water, nor provi «sions, and it was terribly hot. On the second day the raft was surrounded by man-eating sharks, which swarmed, around the raft, 'and made ferocious snaps at the legal of the shipwrecked men. At last one shark grabbed Captain Baxter by the leg, and dragged him into the sea. He was devoured before the eyes of his men. Next day the cook and cabin' boy 'died from exhaustion. Six others died afterwards from hanger, thirst, and exposure. Tro survivors were picked up by a passing vog Bel. One was nearly insane, and it was several days before he could tell what had happened to him.

PURE, Exquisite in Flavor, Stimula ting without Reaction, this life-giving, Natural Mineral Water gushes out of the mountain-gide at Takaradzka, near Kobe, Japan.

PURITY. Its source is amid hard viucabic rock, beyond reach of contact with any human being, and it is conveyed by gravity through a rock-hewn tunnel and concreté aqueduct to a sheltered enclosure, where, without pumping, bailing, or touch of human hand, it is placed by machinery in sterilized bottles and packed in cases for shipment; thus, from its initial souros protecting the water against possible taint of any kind. Percolating through several strats of virgin rook, it is esturated with their unsullied-mineral properties, and mo, chemical skill can duplicate the living Tangan any more then the laboratory can évolve a living tres.

FLAVOR. Thusan gladdens the palate with a cost peculiar to itself, clean, crisp, novel, and delicious. Its sppetizing taste smacks of satisfaction, without savor of a feeling of fulness, however freely indulged in..

TANBAN is Nature's own distillation, and because of its absolute purity. It blende with spirits, wines, stout, milk, and "other" Liquors without altering the natural flavor, except to unfold it.

STIMUĻUS. Tapaan is refreshful, and, by reason of its native qualities, it excites the appetite and stimulates the nutritive functions. It is persistently regulative without being laxative, and it oliminates from the problem of life the ailments attributable to the liver and. kidneys,

The supply is inexhaustible, being on even flow, entirely independent of earface conditions of a wet or dry season, and there, will never bo necessity nor exoues for the artificial manufacture of Tansan, so that it' will be forever free from the obnoxiops

LONDON LETTER.

(From Our Correspondent.)`

LONDON, May 4. The new Government have offered such drastic legislation that it was with decided relief that we learned that the budget, at all events, was to be almost innocuous. Slight reductions in parcels post charges, Bid off the threepence that Mr A. Cham- berlain put on stripped tobacco, a penny off tea and the abolition of the shilling export duty on coal, made up the sum of

the radical reforms of the tariffs. Nothing is done for the atrocious income tax or for sugar, which is a raw material for many 'trades. The tea penny is not sufficient to reach the small consumer who buys tea by the quarter pound or oven the ounce. Grocers will not recognise farthings so that

the benefit will stop at the retailer. The coal remission will be to the advantage of a few pits which yield the worst description of coal. Cardiff anthracite, as the only known smokeless coal, would always sell abroad, and the foreigner would cheerfully pay the extra shilling, but with cheap coals, worth only six shillings at the pit mouth, the shilling duty was the deciding factor as to whether he would buy the Welsh-or-the Westphalian article. It is an unexciting budget, and one that makes changes only in favour of certain limited classes of the community. We may buy tea of a little better quality, but otherwise the man in the street is not benefited one iota by the surplus that Mr Austen Chamberlain left and the economies that Mr Asquith

promises.

Late on Wednesday evening an extra" ordinary canard was circulated in London

to the effect that our King was lying
