It was in the nature of things that a well- trained and well-selected,"team" from s Country where Rugby football id the game of games, should be much more than a match for Engilsh clubs and county fifteens. FRIDAY, DECEMBER 22, 1905,
Rugby Field some years ago o their Bucoed was ascribed to the fourth three-quarter played by them and English teams, after their defeats,
copled the Welsh formation, but not with a great measure of sucosas. Now it is sug gested that the English teams use the New Zealander's style, but on this point the Field says: There appears to be no im- mediate necessity for the English fifteen to adopt either the reality or the horribla designation of five-eighth and they may be reluctant to engage a self-respecting undertake the part of wing player to forward. There the Field directly insin nates that the position of wing-forward is one that no self-respecting player would daro to fill, in other words, it is not an honourable position. We think that ex- ception should be taken to that insinua. tion. Awing-forward' in every bit aa valuable to his team as any man in the field. The rules regarding his position may not be very clear, and we know that all referees do not take the same views regarding infringments. thereof. But that can be remedied.
•
Keep behind the ball' should be the wing- forward's motto; if he does that he cannot
be off-side. The obstruction tactics which are indulged in by many wing forwarde have done much to bring the position into disrepute, but they could easily be put down. A revision of the Rugby rules, cleating up of many points which at present, are somewhat obscure, or at least are liable to be mis-interpreted, would do much to bring Rugby football more into popular favour at Home than it is at present. In the Colonies. Rugby is the Association is but little played, and game; in Australia, in particular, what is known as the Australian game-a cross between Rugby and Association-bide fair to put Association altogether in the shade. The Australians do not play the wing-forward but they modelled their formation on the English style.
The New Zealanders style of play is perfectly

thoroughly. The art of using scent is to mysteriously suggest it in a dosen subtle waya Most men dialiko strong perfumes; but they can be strangely influenced and potently attracted by them if they are used with skill. It is only lately that women have learned how to
to do this; and it is quite an interest. 1 day later)ing study now to note
the various methods
employed by one's friends to faintly suggest in themselves or in their rooms some special odour which steals upon the senses of those who come into their presence. I saw it stated the other day that some German doctor declared that bachelors were made by perfumes, or, in other words, that as certain odours will keep certain animals at bay, so strong scents drive men, so to say, from a woman's presence. They themselves are not aware that it is this or that swost essence which keeps them from liking certain folk, bnt soTHE Company's Steamship Sealda, it is. And if this be so, it is high time indeed that the scientific use of stont came to be understood of women, and as artistically employed as cosmetics.
Passengers change steamers at CoLouno, and those for BRINDISI transfer also to the Express Mail Steamer at Foar SAID,

The consequence is that the women of the Parsees are a supérior' race, often even brilliantly clever. Some years ago, the head of the business house of Sassoon was a lady, and one of such remarkable ability that her inclusion in the Viceroy's Council was seriously mooted. A few weeks ago, an almost equally suprising movement was made in the Bombay Municipal Council. Mr Rahit bola, another Farsee, proposed and actually obtained thirteen votes for a
