GETTING EVEN.

The following story is told of a well- known actor. Not long ago he received from a New York friend an unpaid letter containing nothing but the following brief mesange:

UNEDUCATED,

A stranger visiting Harvard Memorial Hall recently found

und that the only atten- dants from whom he could derive infor mation were the colored waiters at the students' tables. One of the busts along the wall seemed to look like President "Eliot. But as the visitor was not sure, he asked one of the most intelligent of the waiters if he could tell him whose bust that

WAS.

•Well, no, suh; I don't think I could, suh," was the answer. 'Ah'm a atrange, mysolf, suh. Only been lere 'bout three months. I'll ask.'

Ho bookoned to a fellow waitor. 'De gemimen wants to know who dat burst am.'

'Dat burat replied his comrade, Why, everybody knows-who dat's a_buret, of. It's de college boss, sub; I don't ⚫recolleek his name dis minute, suh.'

As the visitor turned away he overheard one of them reply to some remark of the other Havahd man ? No, suh, Ain't iddicated enough for that. Havahd man saying "bust."

HIGH CLASS.

A well-known New York composer, who, had long felt the need of a raputable firm of agents to undertake the disposal of his compositions, read recently the advertise- ment of a bureau which offered to place musical and other manuscripts with pub lishers. Their charges were fairly high, and the advertisement stated expressly that only work of the highest grade' was handled by the bureau. The com, oser, thinking that this was probably the opportunity he had been looking for, sought the address given in the advertiremont. Entering the offices

of the concern, he found the manager, in

his shirt-sleeves, aitting at a typewriter.

I understand you place musical con- positions for a commission?' inquired the composer.'

That's right, was

was the answer; but we

only handle first-grade stuff."

Do you suppose, continued the com poser, you could place this Sanctus' of mine?'

Bure I replied the manager, confidently.. Why, last seasou we placed Bink's Mother's with the Angels, and he made over two thousand.

the most

and charming spot in beautiful Davon, is the birthplace of Miss Maty Bond, who now lives at 1, Ivy Cottages, Meddon St., Bideford, England. Miss Bond's father is well known in Clovelly, whore he lived for 70 years. On June 4th, 1902, Miss-Bond said My grandfather died of kidney complaint; and when fifteen years ago, I noticed unmistakable aigns of kidney trouble, I was naturally worried and anxious, because I knew the seriousness of it. The first sign was a dull, buraing pain in the back, which became sharp and cut- ting whenever I stooped. I also noticed that the urine was unnatural, and I was troubled with gravel,

I got worse and worse as time went on, and nothing I tried relieved me. At last I was so bad I didn't know what to do; I Could hardly move without pain, and I began to fear I should never be cured...

Last Christmas my brother, a sen cap- tain, sent me three boxes of Doan's Back aobo Kidney Pls as a Christinas present, and I gave the medicine a thorough trial: I felt a good deal better after I had finished bis gift and I went through a course of the medicine, taking fourteen boxes in all. Now I am quite another woman; I feel so much stronger and better, and there, is no sign of gravel, I believe I have been cured by Doan's Pills, and I shall always be pleased to speak about them to others."

Our representative visited Miss Bond on April 23rd, 1804 (12 years after her oure), and was heartily welcomed I am still in good bealth, Miss Bond declared. *and

I have found my cure to be lasting. I don't know what I should have dono with-
