A Successful Manoeuvre.
Saturday last was very interesting to the The field day which was arranged for
spectators as well as to the men employed, being an admirable.object lesson, especially to the Volunteers. The day was rather occasion when the Volunteers took part in dull, but in marked contrast to the last manoeuvres with the Regular Forces. We allude to the night attack, early this year. On that occasion i was bitterly cold, and the Volunteers felt it. On Saturday, how ever, though the day was dull it was not what ciuld be called cold.

I have not heard of Japan's erecting and endowing special colleges for the education of Chinese students. It appears that after sending picked young men to Europe and America, China lins entered several students at the existing Japanese colleges in order that they might receive more advanced instruction in special subjects, and we may hazard the assertion that this course has not been adopted without the definite intention of imbuing these Chinese cadets with the principles and methods so successfully.employed by the Japanese in civil, naval, and military matters. How then in the absence of this last important attraction, can Hongkong hope to divert more than a trickling portion of the already small stream to her proposed University Nor must we forgot that it is not only the institution itself that would be more costly, but that the expenses Chinese student covered by the Volunteers.. The operations The retreat was well conducted, being would have to meet in Hongkong must concluded about noon.
