FRIDAY, NOVEMBER 10, 1905,

Thompson, Foreign Secretary of the Lon- don Missionary Solty, and the Rev. Alez. Connell, Minister of Regent Square Pres þyterian Church ið London. Mr Hickling work in the Polytechnic was under she abasivation f the gentlemen, and un- known to himself they satisfied themselyen that this perequally and very varied experience were such as were eminently desirable in the pastor of such a congrega- tion sa, the Union Church in Hongkong. Mr Hickling Ydow nothing of the enquires being made, and when first ap proached had some besitation about ao- capting the proposal made to him. Even- tually, undor prossure, he consented to come to Hongkong, and we welcomed him our minister in the Union Church in May 2/1802. Here I may leave this vory meagre aütline skelch of Mr Hickling's career, as the last three years have been under the observation of you all. But I cannot do so without a reference to the evolution of the Sunday School, which has now a flourishing innoh in Kowloon, and what is esentially ¿Peak Branch in the stated services for children conducted by Mr Hickling at the | Pork.

"Mr Hickling's missionary enthusiasm, song proved by his work for the London Missiobarý Society - in the home land, to which I have already referred, has here found an outlet mi many directions, of which possibly the most important and far-riching has been the afiliation of this Church with the To Tsai Native Church of the London Mission in an offort to reach hiherto unevangelized villages in our own Now Territory, under the title of the Hongkong and New "Territory Evangelization Society,"

The Literary Club, the most successful Organization of its kind that has existed in this Colony, must, after allowances are made for the energy of its officers, be ack- nowledged as a direct outcome of Mr Hick. fing's many sided personality.

The broad view of life taken by Mr Hickling, and the interest he has shown, and practically shown, in every form of recreation and legitimate sport have opened a way for him to the hearts of the young men of the Colony, and he has not been elow to avail himself for spiritual purposes of opportunities thus afforded him." His interest in sport is not a thing of recent growth. In his early manhood he was an original member of the Notts Forest Foot, ball Toum, and himselfstarted an Amateur Olsh which eventually twice won the County Cup. A Cricket Club at Notting ham alan originated by Mr Hickling it still

Much must to left for the readers to imagine. The women were spared the worst. In nocent little Amie Machle was the first to be put to death. She and Dr Chesnut were the first ones found by the mob. They were stripped of all clothing and were thrown uninjured into the river. Dr Chesnut could swim and safely reached

There was sufficient time when they first came for them to have got the missionaries away to some place of safety. It is true that they had less than a score of soldiers and those were untrained. AN INTERESTING PERSONALITY, Twould be selfish to withhold know-

My face and lips were colourless, for I have no blood in my veins. My broath was so short that on apveral occasions I fell down in the street from pure exhaustion. Unlike most anomic girls, I had a keen appotite; in fact, it was unnatural. I suffered a great deal with pains in the head and side-pains which soldom left me. I went to the beat doctor we could find. I took medicine, medicine, medicine--anything to get ro- lief|"

**Ono night Mre. Chamberlain added: my daughter came home, and as soon as she got in she dropped. I made sure she was dying. I had lead about Dr. Williams' pink pille, and I got her a bottle and made her take them regularly. From that time she began to mend. I think I cried for joy whon I saw the alteration in her. The colour begin to blomm in her churks; her eyes, which had been dull, grew bright; and she became quite active. She soon ceased to be troubled by shortness of breath, and before long sho was in perfect health Again,'

Dr.

Anemia is simply bloodlessness. Williams' pink pills make now blood; thus they cure anæmis just as food cures hunger. They are good for other troubles of women and girls and of men, too, for they oure bilo, indigestion, gout, rheumatiem, sciatica, heart disease, backacho, paralysis, St. Vitus' dance, and all troubles that arise from poor blood or starved nervos. Dr Williams' medicine co., Holborn-viaduct, London England, send a buttle for two shillings and ninepence, six for thirteen and nine but they can he had at most medicine shops.
