I am quite at ono with Dr Russoll that the cure of consumption rest on increasin the digestive capacity and improving its nutrition. There is, however, a further point, and on this, probably, temperance pouple insy misunderstand mo, but I am bound to say it-I look upon the liquor of grins as one of the most important causes of the tamins of the English people; that in to asy, the heer of old England. To my mind, it is not the alcohol in the beer, but it is the anlts which are obtained from the barley, wherein coulat the merits of the beverage. There are two things which I consider vory valuable in promoting the growth of the English raco-one has been the beer, and the other has been the old English dish of furmenty,' made of barley corn, 1 especially want to emphasise the fact that the buor originally drunk was much more of the nature of barley tea than is the beer of to-day.

Any one who has been to the old farm- house browerica will know what I mean when I speak of sweet wert, which is really alt tea. It is composed of malt barley put

to stow, and soaked in large quantities; and

the liquor, on being drawn off, is really strong sweet-hear. In my opinion, there

ALMOST EVERYONE, AT THE END

OF SUMMER, FEELS WILTED AND RUN DOWN. We wonder how wo stood the heat of January and February so well, only to collapse when the weather is appreciably coolier. The reason is that the Summor strain is just beginning to tell on

us,

We need to CLEAR THE SYSTEM OF POISONOUS WASTES, and to atimu late the Liver and Kidneys into action again. IN CHOOSING AN APERIENT we look for certainty of result, gentleness of action, and palatableness. LAXATINE, THE WORLD FAMOUS HUNGARIAN APERIENT, is the only one of all the hundreds before the public which meets the ideal conditions. It is recommended by Physicians as specially suitable for the use of ladies and children. TRY ONE BOX. THE PRICE IS ONLY ONE SHILLING. Prepared only by the LAXATINE CO., LTD., Budapest, Hungary,

Jongkong Tidon. The tide table given below has been compiled at the Nautical Almanac Office in London from the result of the analysis of observations taken by means of an zu- tomatic tide-recording machine in the Wa. ter Police Basin at Tsim Sha Tsui during the years 1887-8-9.

Tho zoro of the table corresponds with the zero of the soundings in the Admiralty Charts which has been found to be 4 foot 3 inches below mean sea level. ... To obtain the depth of water on the tide gaugo, at the Victoria Naval Yard add 3 foot 4 inches, and on the gauge at Lamont Dock, Aberdeen, add 10 feet 6 inches to the height given in the table.

Add 23 minutes 18 seconds to the figuros givon below to correct to Zone time.
