The World's Championship.

It was a fair-and-equaro race on Saturday (writes the Sydney Daily Telegraph of June 24) which inade Jim Stanbury once again the champion of the world. After the decisive manner in which he outpaced" George Towns, the liolder of the title, in the presence of about the biggest crowd ever

seen on the Parramatta Rivor, the wonder becomes dioper how Gaudaur, the Cana». dian, ever managed to beat him. Towns best Gaudaur comfortably, and after · a retirement of over nine years Stanbury now emerges and boats Towne with ease. How easily he could have beaten him about the time Towns beat Gaudaur, five years ago,

may be left to the Imagination. At all Levonia, Stanbury's performance stamped him one of the most solentiflc and stur. dicst scullers the world has over seen. At two miles from home, Stanbury led by some half-dozen lengils, and, s Towns had been Towing all out over that distance and Stane bury was then rowing well within himself, a good many who watched the race closely incline to the opinion that, had he chosen,

the big Hawkesbury River nativo could

have won by a dozen lengths. Instead of

that, he appeared to be on the point-of collapsing half a mile from the winning- post. Towns began to overhaul him, amið a terrific din of excitement, but suddenly Stanbury seemed to pull himself together, and went away strongly, winning by two lengths in fast time. This incident in explained by the fact that at this juncture Stanbury twice struck a fosting bottle with one of his sculls, which caused him to near- |ly drop, his blade on the first occasion, and mado him roll in his boat the second time. This was the cause of his losing way.

Staulury's load notwithstanding at this point of the race, one observer on the boat remarked. I think Towns will win.' But there wore as yet no sigus of a turn in Towns's favor, and when he passed three lengths in the front the crowd cheered wildly. By now the steamer sirens were hard at it. Both inen were row- ing strongly, and without causing a ripple, | so neatly did their sculls cleave the water. They were now aproaching the half-way point.

By the time they reached half-way Stanbury had got further away from his lighter antagonist, the excitement along the river being a thing to be remembered. 'Now Towns is going," shouted the smaller mau's admirers, but the announcement was premature, as Stanbury had made the gap` bigger by the time the two-mile post was renched. Towns glavcod round"

But Towns was not yet done, and off Cabarita he spurted after the big man, exultant shouts from his supporters excitedly proclaiming the fact. But the big cove is off, too, shouted out a few. And it was true, as Stanbury put in a few

But Towns WAS not to be denied, and, amid trem. ondous excitement, ho plugged after the man who was threatening to deprive him of the championship, and rowed for all he was worth. Enthusiasm reached a high pitch. Those who declared the big fellow is laughing him proved to be mistaken. There was an electric wave agitating the the pulses of the onlookers as Towns began to creep upon Stanbury, while the big far- mer seemed to falter. A hoarse yell from thousands of throats indicated that soine- thing sensational was going to happen. But it was flash in the pan, and Stanbury soon showed his opponent a clean pair of heels But Towns challenged himagain, and appear ed to be on the point of overtaking him, the crowd roaring itself hoarso. It was a last offort, however, and Stanbury was still quite fresh, comparatively. The big man did not seem to stir himself till Towns was a length and a half away, when he put in ́s fow hard strokes, which carried him past the red flag an easy winner by two lengths. Stanbury finished looking as fresh as a daisy, while Towns, who had, to use a woll- known rowing term, rowed his heart up,' was in a state of semi-collapse. Staubury. the now champion, was hailed with the sweet music of a vast crowd's plaudits, but one could well imaging the spontaneity of the popular outburst had the smaller man. succeeded in retaining his title against his burly challonger. The following table is a chronologically arranged list of mail steamer sailings to Europe, America, Canada, and Australia. Coast ports, Manila, and Japan are not given, for steamers are constantly sailing for those ports. the American steamers call at Japan, and the majority of the Australian boate call at Manila, and, in addition to those vessels, special steamers run there. The departure of every steamer is subject to alteration. The P. & O. mails usually reach London in about 28 days, and the French and German in about 28 or 30 days

As a consequence of working in "wet seams, any, husband was for many years a terrible sufferer from bleeding piles. His condition at length pot so bad that ho had) to give up work; and for eleven months be was unable to do a stroke. His agony was at times awful, and he could not sit, stand, nor lie down. The only way he could get a little case was by going down on his knees before the fire. A doctor who at- tonded him said an operation was the only thing to cure him. We got him many different kinds of medicinos, but they did him no good.

One day I was reading about a Bile Bean curo, and I thought I would buy a bottle for my husband. I did so, and he began taking them, although I don't think he was very hopeful of obtaining relief. However, he felt so much botter after the first, bottle that ho continued with the treatment. Soon he was able to get about without pain. The improvement continued, and he was eventually quito curod. I am always willing to testify that Bile Beans are without an equal for piles; we are never without a bottle in the house. Thousands of cases could be quoted "similar to the above. In many instances, piles result, from constipation; which in turn, arises from defective liver action. Biloa Beans stimulato and correct the liver," and thus remove the real cause of the ail- ment. They are also a cure for indiges- tion, biliogeness, anæmia, all female ail- ments, debility, and headache. Bile Beans are obtainable from all chemists and modi- cine vendors. Price 75 cents (Mex.) per bottle.

Three hundred Bulgarians, probably ow- ing to a dispute as to wood-cutting rights, surrounded a party of unarmed Turkish pcs- mants who were collecting firewood in the Roleshdagh Mountains, and bound 80 of them, then cutting them to pieces with their hatchots. But Saghalien commands the mouth of the Amur, and consequently did the island pass out of Russia's hands she would be deprived of the secure use of the great water-ways without which all this region of the Far East could not be developed.

Further, the transfer of Bughallen to Japan would convert the whole Son of Japan into a Japaneso lake, since every approach to it would be commanded by the Japanese-the Strait of Tartary, the Soya Strait, the Strait of Tsugaru and the Teushima Strait.
