In the debate on the Foreign Office

estimates, Earl Percy said that the Govern ment was fully alive to the importance of co-operating with Franca for the promotion of common interests in China, and that negotiations were approaching a conclusion for the joint eonstruction of a railway in the Yangtze Valley to Sandstone Basin and Szechuan Basin.

Death of Chan Of Ting.

We have to announce with regret the death of Chan Ol Ting, which occurred at Shanghai at 1 o'clock on the morning of August 6, at the age of 59. Chan Oi Ting, or as ho was then known, Chan A Yin,

Another murder took place at Slato Well. The victim was a swagman, who was killed" by Monkey. The latter o opt on him while | asleep, and chopped his head off The body was cat into pieces, and carried three miles and buried. The police recovered the remains of this man, but his name is not known.

Another murder at the same place tras that of two men with's pack horse, who were killed by Monkey, Toby, and others, either this year or late last year. Both these men wero apeared while asleep. Their names are unknown, and their remains are not been discovered. Thoir pick saddlo and other belongings were burnt, and the iron-Co work was carried into the hills. Hero also a young man described by the nativos as of fair complexion, was murdered. He had five horses, and was speared by Monkey. The packs, etc, were burnt, and the iron- work carried into the hills. This man also KWONG FOOK CHEONG was unknown, and his body was bunt.

Another murder took place at Junction Well, on Goldfields Creek, a swagman being killed by Toby and others, while asleep. His name is unknown. At Granny's Gorge, Ashburton River, a swagman was
