FOR BABY'S SKIN
SCALP AND HAIR
Something for Mothers to Think About
EVERY CHILD born into the world with an inherited or early developed tendency to distressing, disfiguring humours of the skin, scalp, and blood, becomes an object of the most tender solicitude, not only because of its suf- fering but because of the dreadful fear that the disfigura- tion is to be lifelong and mar its future happiness and prosperity. Hence it becomes the duty of mothers of such afflicted children to acquaint themselves with the best, the purest, and most effective treatment available, viz., THE CUTICURA TREATMENT.
Warm baths with CUTIJUNA SOAP, to cleanse the skin of crusts and scales and soften the thickened cuticle, gentle anointings with CuricURA OINT- MENT, to instantly allay itching, irritation, and inflammation, and soothe and heal, to be followed in the severer cases by mild doses of CUTICURA RESOL- VENT PILLS (see below), to cool and cleanse the blood, are all that can be desired for the alleviation of the suffering of skin-tortured Infants and children and the comfort of worn-out, worried mothers. A single set is often suflelent to cure when the best physicians fail.
Millions of Women Use Cuticura Soap
Aslated by CUTICURA OINTMENT, for preeerring, purifying, and beautifying the skin, for cleansing the scalp of crusts, reales, and dandruit, and the stopping of falling hair, for noftening, whitening, and soothing red, rough, and sore hands, for baby rashes, itchings, and change, in the form of baths for annoying irritations and Indammations, or too free or offensive porepiration, in the form of washod for ulcerative weaknesses, and for many sanative, antiseptic purposes which readily suggest themeclvce to women, especially mothers, and for all the purposes of the tollct, baili, and nursery.
CUTICURA RESOLVENT PILLS (Chocolate Coated) are prepared to meet the wants of delicate women, and sensitive children, cnd are pure, sweet, and tasteless. They aro borond question the most successful blood purifiers and hamone cures yet compounded.
CUTICURA REMEpiss are sold throughout the world Austrian Depois IL Towns & Co., Sydney, British Depoti 37-28, Charterhouse 8g., London. French Depots & Jius de la Paix, Paris Porter Drug and COLL. Cozz., Bola Props, Boston, U. B. A.All about the skin." free.

LITERARY NOTES.
(FROM HOME PAPERS.)
The departure of Mr Chonte and the ar rival of Mr Whitelaw Roid give Mr F. S., A. Lowndes opportunity for a plussant essay in the 'Fortnightly Review' on the Literary Associations of the American Embassy in London. It is rather curious, when one comes to think about it, that the United States should have sont us a much larger number of lettered envoys than France, Germany, Italy, or Spain. But so it is. The countries of Dante, Goothe. Voltairo, and Cervantes find their representatives at the Court of St. James's in buey politicians, adroit dip- lomatists, or altled grandees; the Republic provides us with poets, essayists, and his torians.
1
Mr Lowadon reminds us that Benjamfa Franklin, John Lothrop Motley, George Bancroft, James Russell Lowell, and John Hay were all at the American Embassy in London at some time or
other. The list suggests that the
study of history and literary criticism is a more hopeful pursuit in America than 1370 in England. In the latter country, if the atudent is lucky, it may possibly bring him to an ill-paid professorship; in the former it may lead to one of the most agro sable and dignified positions which any person;
The occupy. clever literary young man, with some tasto for public affairs, should select Franos or the 532 United States as his birthplace, and he may hope to be a Cabinet Minister or an Am. bassador in due course.

IMPUNITIES IN THE BLOOD. We have seen hosts of letters from all sorts and conditions of people, in which the writers, acknowledge the benefit they have received from Clarkes's Blood Mixture, which as a curative agent cannot be too highly estimated, since it clasdacs and claarg the blood from all impurities, and restores it to its normal condition. This is a good testimonial from the Family Doctor, the popular medical weekly, which goce on further to say: It is certainly the finest blood purifler that science and skill-pave brought to light, and we can with the utmost confidence recommend it to

meeting of the East India Association, should have provoked derisive laughter. The following is an extract from the rover- end gentleman's letter, which appeared in the Allahabid' Pioneer in the year
1892I wish to give to the public the benefit of my experience during the last 15 years. As soon as possible after the bite, wash the wound well with English vinegar (malt vinegar) or with caustic. Give to the person bitten, internally by the mouth two times daily, malt vinegar to drink (ounce vinegar to 1 ounce water), continue to do so daily for two weeks, and the patient will be out of danger. I have saved many lives by this simple treatment: but have not tried it in cases where symptoms of hydrophobia were already visible; but in such cases also, the Pasteur system seems to fail. Among the patients cured by vinegar were four per- song bitten in one night by a mad jackal ; all recovered! One boy was fearfully bitten by a mad dog. After 15 days' treatment with vinogar he was cured. All the other people bitten by the same mad dog, and not treat- theed with vinegar, died of hydrophobia within' 15 days.' Mr Lorbeer is a well-known Ger- man missionary at Ghazipur: and it would be interesting to know if he still pins his faith on the vinegar cure for hydrophobia. Vinegar is a dilute form of acetic acid and I believe that strong acetic acid would prove to be a valuable agent in fighting the campaign against hydrophobia and plaque in India. Now, in the destructive distilla- tion of seaweed and of peat, acetate of limo is produced as one of the by-products, from which acetic acid could be made for ugg in India.
