FIRST-CLASS BOARDING". ESTAB.

THE YELLOW MINER.

How He is Housed,

Mr I. M. McAnderson, a visitor to South Africs, had an opportunity of seeing the lately imported Chinese at work, and of learning a great deal of interest about them. He ascertained that there were al the time of his visit about 11,000 Chinese on the field, by the end of the year there will be 24,000. Altogether 60,00 have been ordered, but the samples so far to band are giving so much entisiaction that it is expected that ultimately over 200,000 will be employed. The first Chiness that are rived were from the southern parts of Chins, The others bave ali come from the Northern districts, and are atated by Mr Anderson to

entirely different-looking

lot of men.

be

* They are fine, upstanding intelligent fel- lows, in height from öft. Sia, to fit. They most favorably impress one, and I should think will ultimately do the work that whito men could do, and will probably be employ- ed in all departments excepting the batte- ries and oyaniding planta, where the gold chinese are such expart thieves when they wish to thieve that white men will be employed there.

former years, and with the season further advanced, a vast improvement on the pre- sent state of things is more than probable. As to Saigon Hongkong business, Chinese still content themselves with shipping small parcels by their own boats and the prosent arrivals of new grain do not warrant meagre taking up full steamers. Apart from that, the rice is too fresh-to be fit for shipment and chartering will hot bo in full swing un. til well after the Chinese New Year, may in about a month from date. Closing quota- tion stands at 10 cents per picul.

Saigon for Java porte, no fresh business has been reported and as to Saigon/Japan, there have been enquiries for February- March delivery, without, however loading up, to anything.

From Saigon to Philippines ports a cou- ple of fixtures are on record at 32 cents per pioul for Manila and 2 cents better for Cebu. A limited demand still continues to show itself, but it is difficult to get hold of: the right kind of steamer and to fit in dates as required:

j

Bangkok business is at a complete stand- still and, in fact, some of the regular liners might temporarily be had for other work! Owing to the approach of the Chinese Now year, all the mills are gradually stop- ping work and there will be no rice for shipment until the latter end of February, However, as already mentioned in a former iRBue, quite an exceptionally large crop is expected and a fair amount of chartering is likely to come to pass later on.

From Java to this, there is but little do."

and

ing and rates are unchanged-and may be quoted 30 cents per pioul wet sugar proportionately less for dry sugar.

In the North, considering the season of the year, ratos remain firm and advancing for whatever business there is,and future prospects are very encouraging.

Rates from the Yangtze ports have ruled very steady and there is a continuous demand, filled to a large extent by local Co's boate at 27 cand., Wuhu Chinking to Canton,

TWENTY-five years mean a large part Tof a man's life. If you slept the whole of that time at a stretch you would nator lly feel that you had wasted a great part of your existence, yet time spent in pain and suffering that unfits you for think ing and working is worse than wasted, and a urent many lives are blighted in that way which might be made happy and useful by using Bile Beanr as a cure and preventive of biliousness, liver complaint, indigestion, constipation, and various other complaints caused by disorder of the liver and diges- tive organs.

Mr W. H. Norish, a farm labourer, re iding at Burraton, Stoke Climsland, Call- ington, Cornwall, suffered most severely for this length of time in consequence of frequent bilious attacks. He has now been made woll and strong by using Bile Beans, and is entirely free from any trace of bili ousness. To a Liskeard Weekly Mer- cary reporter he recently disclosed the facts of his case and the manner of his wonderful restoration to health.

To my great surprise and joy soon I began to feel better. I could not expect to be relieved at once, as my case was a very bad one, but have only Bile Beans to thank.*

Bile Beans are superior to all known liver and stomach mediciren They are the research, product of the latest scientific contain no har ful animal or mineral mst- ter, but are purely herbal from costing to kernel.
