Speedy Cure Treatment.

Bathe the affected parts with Hot Water and Cuticura Soap, to cleanse the surface of crusts and scales, and soften the thickened cuticle, Dry, without hard rubbing, and apply Cuticura Ointment freely, to allay itching, irritation, and inflammation, and soothe and heal, and lastly take Cuticura Resolvent Pills, to cool and cleanse the blood. A single set is often sufficient to cure the most torturing, dis- figuring, itching, burning, scaly, pimply humours, eczemas, rashes, irritations, and chafings, with loss of hair, when all else fails.

The agonizing itching and burning of the skin, as in eczema; the fright- ful scaling, as in psoriasis; the loss of hair and crusting of the scalp, as in scalled head; the facial distgurement, as in pimples and ringworm; the awful suffering of lufants and the anxiety of worn-out parents, as in milk crust, tetter, and salt rhewin, all demand a remedy of almost superhuman virtues to successfully cope with them. Such are the CUTICURA remedies, the purest, sweetest, most speedy and economical curatives for the skin, scalp, and blood ever compounded. Mothers are their warmest friends.

Millions of Women Use Cuticura Soap

Assisted by CUTICURA OINTMENT for preserving, purifying, and beautify- ing the skin, for cleansing the scalp of crusts, scules, and dandruff, and the stopping of falling luair, for softening, whitening, and Boothing red, rough, and sore hands, for baby rashes and chafings, in the form of baths for aunoying Irritations and Inflammations of women, or too free or offensive perspiration, in the form of washes for ulcerative weaknesses, and many sanative, antiseptle purposes which readily suggest themselves, as well as for all the purposes of the tollet, bath, and nursery.

CUTICURA RESOLVENT PILLS (Chocolate Conte) are a new, tasteless,

odourless, economical substitute for the rule brated liquid CUTICURA RESOLVENT, as well as for all other blood purifiers and humour cures. Put up iu screw-cap pocket vials, containing 60 doses.

To tho Bystander Miss Mario Corelli is contributing weekly n characteristic ori- ticism of something calculated to disturb→→ and, judging by the interest they havo aroused, succeeding in disturbing--some- body badly. Miss Corelli is undoubtedly one of the most striking literary figures of the day. She has her violent admirers, she has hoats of violent detractors, one fact remains she has an enormous public.

This paper Miss Corelli starts with the question, Why American Women Tare popular in England and concludes with hor answer: Because they deserve to be !'

For the American woman is, above all women in the world, clover-or, let us say, 'brainy,' to an almost incredible height of brainyness. She is all there,' Sho can tako the measure of a man in about ten minutes and classify him as though he were a botanical specimen. Life does not run only in one channel for the American Woman. She does not ⚫ make trucks' solely from the cradle to the altar, from the altar to the grave. She realises that there is inore fun to be got, out of being born than just this little old measure meted out to her by the barbaric males of earliest barbaric periods, when wo mon were yoked to the plough with cattle -as they still are in some parts of Switzer- land. And it is tho innate consciousness offher own power and intelligent ability that gives her the dominating charm-the magnetic spell under which the stolid Britisher falls more or less stricken, stupefied and inert,

Nover is Miss Corolli more trenchant than when criticising (the work attacking' sho objects to. for, says sho: Truth is always called an 'attack' by liars') the Church. In this paper she indicts those clergy who degrade themselves

A really beautiful woman is scarcely ever seen, not even in Great Britain, where average good looks are pleasantly para is made up of a good skin, bright eyes, soft mount. Prettiness--the prettiness which

and abundant hair, and a suppló figure-is quite ordinary. It can be seen every day among barmaids, shop girls, and milliners' mannequins. But Beauty, the divine and subtle charm which enraptures all beholders -the perfect form, united to the perfect face in which pure and noble thought is ex- pressed in every feature, every glance of oyo, in every smile flint makes a sweet mouth sweeter-this is what we may search through Europe and America and the whole for through all the Isles of Britain, ny, and world besides, and seldom or never find it. Naturally this is a pendant to the fore the same, and is not so well treated :--- going. The subject written of is very much

and becomingly as she can. But just as a clothe her person as neatly, as tastefully virtue when carried to excess develops into a vice, so the art of dressing well, when allowed to overstep its legitimate uses and expenditure, easily runs into folly and madness. The reckless extravagance of women's dress at the present day is little short of criminal insanity. A feverish desire to outvie one another in the manner and make of their garments appears to possess every feminine creature whose, lot in life places her outside positive penury. Tho inordinately wealthy, the normally rich, the well-to do middle class and the shabby genteel are all equally infected by the same hysterical frenzy. And it is frenzy which is humoured and encouraged on all sides by those who should have the sense, the intelligence and the

tendency, and the misery to which in many cases it is surely bound to lead.

And especially is it encouraged by men. The male sex has made the power of dress what it is:

Foreign Law in a British Court.

The Free Church.

A meeting of the Law Committee and officials of the United Free Church of

Scotland was held on Aug. 2 in Edinburgh. There was a large representative attend- anes. The proceedings wore strictly private, and no communication was made to the Press. The general view taken in Scotland is that a Parliamentary Bill must be pro- moted at an early date to legaliso some settlement. Should the judgment of the House of Lords be followed the affairs of the Church will become unworkable.

They are not satielled, moreover, with criticizing Kuropatkin's plan. They criticize his military capacity. As the foundation of his reputation was laid under the auspices of Skobeleff, whose chief of staff he was, his enemics are now attempting to prove that Skobeleff did not think much of Kuropat kin, who never could do anything of con. sequence unless in concert with a great general. Some are dwelling upon the fact that during the attack upon the Green Mountains before Plevna, it was announced to Skobeleff that Kuropatkin had been wounded. Skobeleff paid no attention and continued his movement. Others declare that Skoboloff once said to Kuropatkin: 'Alexis Nicolaievitch, you are an ambitious man and you will have a fine caroer, but do not forget my advice. Never accept an independent post in which you will have to direct affairs."
