a European of Sir Robert Hart's tried- capacity and long experience should 'dream for a moment that it can be carried out in the way which he proposes. The naval and milltary resuscitation of a great people presupposes and depends upon their moral regeneration. Without that arme and ships are mere costly encumbrances. It is the man behind the gun, and the man who commands him, that count, and they are the product of a long moral and intellectual training: That is a truism to all thought ful Europeans. That it is not obvious to Sir Robert Hart is a demonstration of the extent to which he has sunk into Chinese habits of thinking.

The Times correspondent telegraphed from Paris on May 24 :-

The St. Petersburg correspondent of the Echo de Paris states that the differences of opinion as to the conduct of the war which have long been known to exist between General Kuropatkin and Admiral Alexeiefl are causing anxiety in the Russian capital. Admiral Alexeieff has refused to receive Ad- miral Skrydl ff. The correspondent re- marks that none of the Viceroy's telegrains mentions Admiral Skrydloff's arrival at Vladivostock. It is even stated that Ad- miral Alexeieff prevented the Commander in-Chief of the Pacific fleet from attempt ing to unter Port Arthur. of a chill contracted while picking fruit, rheumation attacked Mrs Kirby: Dr Williams pink pills for palo people were, however, recommended to her and she Bo became well again. The facts, given in Mrs Kirby's own words, are as follows:

The rheumatism spread over my whole body. I was in dreadful pain. Two doctors attended me.. For a year I lay belpless. My faith in physic was falling off, and I began to feel that I should never get well again. A neighbour, who had suffered from rheumatism, recommended me to try Dr Wiliama pink pills. After I had taken but a very few bottles I began to foel well, and able to do a little work in the house, I continued to take the pille, with the result that I now fool as well as a woman of my age-fifty-two-could expect to feel.'

Mr Fred Kirby, who lives with his mother, and is twenty-four years of age, has been even a greater sufferer. When a little boy he fell into the water. His com- panion fished him out, but as he was not strung child the wetting brought on rheumatism, which he never got rid of until two years ago he had rheumatic fever, and it was then that he first took these pills, with the happiest results.

Every wock new cures are reported in the newspapers from the use of Dr Williams' pink pills for pale people, including in. numerable cases of anamin, general weak. ness, loss of appetite, palpitation, shortness of breath, hysteris, paralysis, locomotor ataxy rheumatism, sciatica, scrofula, rickets, chronic crysipelas, consumption of the bowels and lungs. These pills are not a purgative, and contain nothing that could injure the most delicate. They are genuine only with full nante, Dr Williams' pink pills for pale pooplo, and are sold by Dr Williams' medicine company, Holliorn- viaduct, London, E.C., at two shillings and ninopence a bottle, or six bottles for thirteen and nine, post free. They in- vigorate the system after overwork, worry, and indiscretions.
