LONDON DIRECTORY,
THE BIGGEST HORSE IN THE WORLD,
Synder, the biggest horse in the world, and of the most wonderful of strange animal freaks, is to be exhibited at the Louisiano Purchase Exposition in St. Louis this year. He is the tallest horse in the world, standing 21 hands and weighs 2,700 1 pounds, prob Ely the heaviest horse in the world, although discredited reports from Belgium tell of two horses weighing 2,800 pounds in that country of heavy Flemish horses. Synder is a bonutiful dark chest- nut in color, with not a mark on him ex- cept for a white puzzle star on his forehead. This and two one-inch horns which are growing out on his temple are his freak features and are most remarkable. The horns. cannot be accounted for, while the white star or puzzle is in the form of the forequarters of a horse or doer showing the legs, head, and horns and the curve of the neck. It has been likened to a map of South Ame rica as well, but its striking resemblance to the fore quarters of the animal is noted at first glance. The animal was exhibited last autumn at many county fairs, and at- tained considerable reputation as a wonder- fully developed horse. An exhibition, to make the horse's size appreciable, a man of average height stands at his head and reaches but to his nose, while the horse's towering height is further illustrated by

MR P. F. WARNER'S TEAM
IN AUSTRALIA.
The Test Match Averages.
The Times of Ceylon thus reviews the test
A matches in Australia ;-
Now that the series of test matches is at an end our readers will be glad to know how the various members of the English team acquitted themselves with jbat and ball. Mr R. E. Foster is an easy first in batting and Rhodes in bowling, but a perusal of the figures will show one or two Hurprises. Mr Warner, who would cur- tainly not have been chosen to play for England even last year excepting as twelfth or thirteenth man has batted better in the 'tests' than in other matches; which showa grit and absence of nerves that may earn him the captaincy of England at home in time. Tyldesloy has been a comparative failure for him—although he was the batting hero of the first Mel- bourne match, with 97 and 62 on bowler's wicket-and Knight has failed badly, although much will be forgiven him for his 70 not out at Sydney, which did so much to win the fourth match and the
rubber. Hayward has once again proved
the good old reliable' of the team. More than once he and Mr Warner minde splendid first wicket stands, which recalled the brilliant work in this connection by Mr MacLaren and Tom. Braund has been the handy man of the team and is one of the two who scored a century: his figures, however, are not so good as Hirst's it will be seen. Arnold has proved the second best bowler of the team, but his batting has never once been worthy of the man whose record last year was 45 innings 1,157 Tuns, average 30.44. Hirst has done well with bat and ball, and has come out strong when his side has been in a tight corner-but he has yet to prove in Australia the holy terror that he is in England. Lilley, who in the past has been such a fine test-match player has fallen off sadly and the present is probably his last trip. Appended are the batting and bowling Agures for test-matches only :--
