SAILOR'S BATTLE WITH
GREEKS.
Fierce Encounter with Harbour
Piraten,
A petty officer named William Daniels belonging to H.M.S. 'Intrepid,' recently. had an exciting struggle for his life in Corfu Harbour.
He had been ashore on leave, and at night got into a boat manned by two Greeks to return to his ship. Soon after the boat was pushed off, the men suddenly dropped their oars and began to rob him, They were both armed with long knives, which they threatened to bury in his body if he attempted resistance.
So for a while Daniels kept quiet, waiting for his change. It came when the men had got all his money, and were for a moment intent on their plunder.
Daniels then sprang up, knocked one man over, and grappled with the other. He clutched at the Greek's knife, but was only able to catch hold of the blade, which, though it cut deep into his fingers, he grippled firmaly. In a few moments, how ever, the other man had regained his feet, and joined in the affray.
A desperate struggle ensued, during which Daniels miraculously escaped the murderous thrusts of the pirates. Evon- tually they held him head downwards and tried to dash his brains out, but he adroitly contrived to receive the blows on his back and shoulders. Thinking he was either dead or dying, the men at last cast him out of the boat.
But this did not end the encounter. His assailants did not reckon upon Daniel stamina, and were greatly surprised to see him swimming.
Hastening to finish their work and fearful of the consequences of hin escape, they pulled after him and had almost reached him when he allowed himself to sink, the boat passed over him, and be came up astern. This necessitated the boat being turned round, and he gained a fow seconds' respite.
Several times he repeated these tactics, the men meanwhile straining every nerve to overtako him. Once, by lying on his back and paddling with his feet he managed
to elude them for a few minutes, but again
they came hotly in pursuit.
In the end, after some hard swimming, he found himself in the midst of a number
of bests which were rounding a point, and promptly swung himself on board one of them, and was taken ashore.-Mail Paper.

EXTRAORDINARY TRAFFIC. NROM time to time instances occur in which living men and women sell a portion of their skins. Advertisements, offering to purchase Human Skin, have. Goodwin, Hugo Prenymen, Kimbal, A. even appeared in the papers!
Where there have been extensive burns it is often impossible for doctors to make the skin grow again except by grafting upon the injured surface pieces of new, healthy skin, skilfully cut from other per- sons, and whore no volunteers are found it is necessary to buy from some one a few equare inches of skin. Hence the adver- tisoments. There was recently in the Scotch newspapers the history of a boy who would probably have been glad to sell part of his skin had he been old enough, and could he have been assured that he would receive healthy skin in exchange. This boy, who is six years old, suffered from the most revolting kind of moist eczema, a most torturing and disfiguring disease. Dr Williams' pink pills for pale people cured him. His mother, Mrs Kerr, 20, Scedhill-road, Paisley Scotland, said: He was practically covered from the age of three months until a few weeks ago. While a baby ho was attacked with bron- chitis. This disappeared in time, but in its place came the terrible, torturing, itching
disease, eczema. The sores came on the breast, then extended to the back of the neck, next to the roots of the hair, after- wards to the face, and finally to the wrists and legs. The child grow, but, oh, what a sight he was! The torture the bairn en- dured! When he got to an age to use his hands he scratched at himself, and so helped to spread the trouble.
We
We had six different doctors for him. You cannot realise what a trying time it was for mo nursing him. I had to muffle his hands in order to prevent him from rabbing the sore parts. He lost his eyebrows and eyelashes, and we were just beginning to give up hope when Dr. Williams pink pills were brought to our notice, and decided to try them. Before the first bottle was finished the irritation on the breast, neck, face, arms and back of legs had consider- ably diminished. By the time Hugh had taken the contents of the second bottle the sores were darkening, drying, and con- tracting, and when he was half through the third bottle the eczema was gone. Hugh is now a strong and healthy child.”
What was the cause of Hugh Kerr's trouble? Undoubtedly the blood. Poor

or bad blood is the cause of nearly all the ills of life. Dr Williams' pink pills aro able to cure so many different discases bo cause they make new and pure blood: nothing else. This is the innocent secret of their marvellous cures. Acting on the blood, and on the nerves through the blood, they are the greatest tonio and curative ever discovered; they have oured consumption, bronchitis, eczema, fits, gout, heart disease, rheumatism, scrofula, par- alysis, and the ailments which women suffer in silence.
