How will one escape embarrassment in windy or rainy weather? inquired Dr. Winnie Smith, "They should be worn with short dresses. Then you don't have to lift your skirt," replied Dr. Dickinson. CHRISTÍAN SCIENCE,

No More Death.

The Lancel has received the following circular, issued in the southern suburbs:→→ Christian Science 'Glorious News !!

Waste no more money on churches and hospitals; burn them or lock them up. Down with par „sons and doctors and live for ever! !'

It is a wild circular, if genuine, but not, really surprising for Christian Science, which, after all, only goes 'one better than some of the electric' and other

modern advertisements of the day. The directions concerning parsons and doctors, far- churches and hospitals, are very reaching, and it is. a happy omen that the Scientists sparo gaols and lunatic asylums. thus keeping something for a green old

age.

A Pharmacist quotes

Materia

Medica' v. Christian Science.

A Home paper says:-We do not, in this country, take the Christian Science fanatica seriously; hence their monstrous absurdities and smug complacency, lacking the propagating fortility of opposition, fizzles out and dies a natural death. But our practical friends in America chafe under of Christian Science the manifestation humbug, and a well-known pharmacist bas gone so far as to deliver an address on tho subject to the Chicago College of Pharmacy to show the superiority of Materia Medica to Christian Science, as proven by tho Scriptures and by sensible folks, past and present.

He claims the use of drugs to be as old as civilisation-in fact, that without me. dicine there would have been no civilisa- tion--the treatment of disease being do scribed on papyrus 2000 B.C., and found by Ebers in the pyramids. Moses, in the Bible (in Exodus), is directed by the Lord to compound a holy oil from myrrh, cinnamon, calamus, sweet cassin, and olive oil, also a confection from stacte, onycha, and frankincense (Genesis xxx. 14), gives honey for sores; olive oil to strengthen the body by inunction, and to ward off disease ; baths of oil and minerals; fig plaster for boils; mandrake,

Jeremiah ii. 28, mentions soap and nitre for cleansing and purifying.

Proverbs xx. 30: balsams as remedies; purging referred to by Solomon:

The Bible also mentions astragalus, balanitos, ferula, pinus, pistacia, styrax and tamarix.

The reference to healing by Christ is given in the Samaritan, who had com- passion on the poor wayfarer, and bound up his wounds, pouring on oil and wine, etc.

Christian Science 'denics, the fun- damental science of chemistry, the effects of chemical changes of oxidation and re- duction, bocàuse on these life and death depend.'

Food is Poison,

UNLESS DIGESTED.

The vigour of health depends on good digestion. Undi- gested food poisons the blood, which clogs up the skin, the liver and the kidneys. Food properly digested makes" new strength, new blood, new flesh, new life. Relish for food and power to digest it comes with Seigel's Syrup. Compounded of fruits, roots and herbs, it tones and cleanses the liver and kidneys, and clears the stomach of the decayed products of indigestion-the truitful cause of headaches, languor, brain fag, constipation and anæmia.

acute indigestion and severe bilious attacks. On such occasions

I was completely prostrated by spitting headaches. I had no

appetite, slept poorly, was low-spirited and extremely nervous.

I tried many tonics, and reputed headache cures, but got no relief until I took Mother Seigel's Syrup, and in a few weeks that remedy set me up again. I can now eat well sicep well and perform my duties with ease." Mrs. Belle Conlon, 4, Parnell Plate, Newcastle, N.S.W.
