Good Prospects.

The petroleum industry appears to have very good prospects in this country (says. the Kobe Chronicle), and despite the present condition of trade, the business in profitable. This is shown by the twentieth half-yearly report of the Japan Petroleum Company of Kashiwasaki, Niigata pre- fecture, which has just been published, and which shows the prefits for the half-year to be Yon 307,034. Of this sum Yen 16,851 was placed to the legal reserve, Yen 107,462 to the special reservo, and Yen 180,000 was distributed as a dividend at the rate of 24 per cont. per annum, the balance of Yen 4,221 being placed to the reserve for the equalisation of dividend. The authorised capital of this company is Yen 2,100,000 of which Yen 1,500,000 is paid up, and the reservoa ameunt to Yen 139,231. A few years ago the company leased an extensivo aren of land having a promising oil veio in the neighbourhood of Haibara district, Totomi province, but the condition of the business in Niigata prefecture has thus far prevent ed any trial being made of the wells in Totomi. It has now been decided, how- over, to commence operations, and the necessary arrangements are being made.

The Hoseu Potroleum Company at Nagaoka, Niigata prefecture, has declared a profit for the last half-year of yen 46,822, of which yen 26,110 was paid for working expenses, leaving a net profit of yen 18,712, and this, added to the amount brought over from last account, makes a total of you 21,254. Of this sum, yen 1,500 was placed -to the legul reserve, and yen 18,760 paid as dividend at the rate of 15 por cent. per andumi, a balance of yon 1,204 being car ried forward. The company is a part. nership, with a capital of yen 250,000 al! paid up.

he coined the word CHLORODYNE. Dr. Browne is the SOLE INVENTOR, and as the composition of Chlorodyne cannot possibly be discovered by Ana- lysis (organic substances defying elimi nation), and since the formula has never been published, it is evident that any statement to the effect that a compound is identical with Dr. Browne's Chlorodyne must be false. This caution is necessary, as many per sons deceive purchasers by false reprosente. tions.
