We hope the correspondent who supplied the following information to the N. 0. Daily News was better informed than the one who, on the 20th ult., predicted war in a few days :—A - well-informed correspondent in the North writes that. there is now no immediate prospect of a war between Russia and Japan, but thore 1267 is reason to think that the Russian military authorities in Manchuria are anxious to forco a war on Japan in the autumn; but it is a matter for, the politicians to decide whether they will be allowed to do so or not. Russin is still strengthening her position in Manchuria and towards the Yalu by collecting stores at Lianyang and Fenghuangcheng, and improving the roads, etc. There was only a small garrison at last reports, and a small party of reservists in plain clothes, but with their rifles, at Yong Ampho, where Colonel Dessino, the brother of our General Dessino, is in charge.
