sun shone, it did so with such good will we forgave her less attractive doings. At Sunny Southsea' there was abund- ant evidence that the place deserved its name, and at Brighton very aptly called London's lung'-similar condi tions also prevailed, albeit there was a cold wind which called for thick wraps. There is, in my opinion, another reason, liable to the disease then Europeans, and probably the chief, why Chinese are more that is the custom which all Asiatics have of walking about barefooted. I think I am estimating it at a low percentage when I say that at least 75 per cent.--probably 90 por cent.-of the plague buboes occur in the groin, and this would indicate that the plague organism enters the body at a distal point from these glands, and that would be objected that no sore can be discovered on at some point below the knee. It may be the foot in cases where the bubo has been found in the groin, but I hold it is not ne cessary to find a sore, as infection may have taken place through the smallest rent in the skin, which, by the time the bubo makes its appearance, has entirely healed

Hongkong Tides. The tide table given below has been compiled at the Nautical Almanac Office in London from the result of the analysis of observations taken by means of an au tomatic tide-recording machine in the Wa ter Police Basin at Tsim Sha Tsui during the years 1887-8-9.
The zero of the table corresponds with the zero of the soundings in the Admiralty Charts which has been found to be 4 feet To obtain the depth of water on the tide gauge at the Victoria Naval Yard add 3 feet 4 inches, and on the gauge at Lamont Dock, Aberdeen, add 10 feet 6 inches to the height given in the table.
