SATURDAY, MARCH 7, 1903,
VITRIOL-THROWING IN
BANGKOK.
A dastardly outrage was committed on an Indian woman, who was sitting in front of her residence in the row of
buildings adjoining Bangrak Hospital last night, says the Bangkok Times of the 23rd February. A carriage in which two persons, a man and woman, were sitting, came along the road and drew up opposite the Indian woman. Without the slightest warning, the woman in the carriage produced three eggs and flung them in the face of the Indian. The eggs had been emptied of their contents and filled with vitriol, The result was that when the missiles struck the woman they burst and the vitriol poured over her face and breast. The acid inflicted frightful wounds and the woman was carried to her apart was suffering excruciating ments. She , pains and an effort was made to aid her but she died within two hours of the assault. The most extraordinary feature of the outrage is that the woman was an inoffensive person who kept herself secluded in her house, and had no quarrels with her neighbours, or indeed with anybody. The carriage in which the assailant remained, was immediately driven off after the outrage and dis- appeared at Sam Yek.
