Stearns' Wine

is noted for its promptness of action. It imparts tone to the organs, re-establishes ormal functions and arouses vigour and ritality. It strikes at the very root of ill- health by building up nutrition, whereby new tissues are formed to replace those diseased and destroyed. It improves the appetite, stimulates digestion and enables the system to obtain its full quota of strength and flesh from the food. It en- riches the blood and tones up the nervous ystem. These are no random statements but definite certainties.

Therefore, Stearns' Wine of Cod Liver Oil is justly denominated a powerful tonic and rebuilder. It is invaluable in all de- pressed, rundown and ill-nourished con- ditions. Most beneficial in consumption, loss of flesh and strength, general debility, Bervousness, dyspepsia, indigestion, sero- fuls, chronic coughs, rheumatism, chronic neuralgias, lassitude, eczema, etc. It is of great service in old age, the change of life it women, and for weak and puny children. Chinese Bankrupt sent to Prison.

Gohn Guan Chew, sole partner of the Chop Khoon Seng at Singapore, has been sent to prison for two months for mis-

representation. The judge was of opinion that defendant had not kept proper books of account, and further, that he had con- tracted debts without having reasonable grounds for supposing that he would be

able to pay them.

The fatal fight between U. Haug, u storekeeper, and Wong Yuen, a boiler maker, which took place some days ago at the Cosmopolitan Docks, occupied the at- tention of Mr Wolfe at the Magistracy to- day. The pair were sparring, it seems, and they evidently became excited. Wong Yuen was knocked down and complained of a pain in the region of the spleen. He died whilst being taken to the hospital. Dr Hunter gave evidence that there were

no marks to indicate that death was the re- sult of a blow. The case was remanded.

Ten witnesses were examined, and their depositions occupied the whole of the fore- noon and afternoon, They proved a clear, case of deliberate murder, and counsel having addressed the jury,

His Lordship, in his charge, said this case was important, because in the first place these murderous attacks by ganga of coolies upon persons who had incurred their displeasure in some way or other must be checked in the Colony. They had been of frequent occurrence about such places as Quarry Bay, where large numbers of coolies were employed; and these coolies must be taught that they could not take the law into their own hands. It was very import- ant that a brutal murder like this should not go unpunished if they could find our who did it. At the same time, the jury must not let their anxiety to put a stop to prisoners, and convict them without full these brutal murders do an injustice to the evidence against them. [ANY cough cures contain opium. The effect of this drug is to diminish secration of the mucus, and the relief afforded is only temporary. As soon as the effect of the opium passes off, the malady returns in a more severe form. The system is also weakened and rendered more susceptible to cold.
