Then there came a night when the crunching of great stones in the bed of the Daiya gawa stream, accompanied a rapid rising of turbid waters which overleaped the ordin ary banks, tore away the yielding earth, brought down monstor trees by the roots, reached the riverside houses, caught them in the ourush and bore them, 150 at least, swiftly away. The following Secretary's Report will be submitted at the Annual General Meet Log:-

I have much pleasure in placing before you & Statenient of Accounts for the past twelve months, and it is gratifying to note that the Club is in a very healthy condition, having paid off debentures during the year to the extent of 8680 and carried forward to the new year a credit in the bank of $178.33.

During the year, six members resignod, but I am glad to my that 14 gentlemen were added to the membership, which now stands at 78.

The thanks of the members are due to the following gentlemen who presented prizes, which had the effect of stimulating great interest in the Club, and resulted in many keen and hard games being played,

The following were the winners in the various competitions, viz :-

HOCKEY.

CLUR V. M.M.8. BLENHEIM,'

This match, the first of the season, was played on the Club grounds yesterday after noon before a limited number of spectators, Captain Stopford, of the Blenheim, being among them. The fact that two six-a-side matches were being played on the adjoin- ing grounds perhaps accounted for the rather sparse attendance.

The Blonheims are a very strong lot this year, and beat the Club by 9 goals to 1. though it was not such a runaway match as the score might imply. It would be in vidious to single out any player individually, as the sailors have brought the art of com bining, so sadly lacking in the Club team, to such a perfect pitch, that some one was always at the posts when needed, to put the ball through. Not that the Club forwards played a bad game; on the contrary, they kept well together, but the outsides, with the exception of Chater and Solfleet, were all over the place. Parker cleared woll in goal, and the large number of goals scored against him can only be attributed to lack of assistance from the backs, and the hard and accurate shooting of the naval men. The following were the teams :

H.M S Blenhiem: Goal, F.H. Batchel or Backs, Lts. Hunt and Middleton ; Half-backs, Capt. Luard, and Lt. Toulmin, R.M.L.I. and Mid. Smyth; Forwards, A.P. Silver and Mids. Pringle, Scott, Harvey, and Burrows.

Club: Goal, C. A. Parker, R.N.; Backs, P.PJ. Wodehouse and Lt. Quennell, A.O D.; Half backs, C. P. Chater, J. P. Jordair, and Lt Solflect, R.N.; Forwards, J. Hooper (Capt), A. G. Roberts, Capt: Dykes,

DEAR SIR,--Some of your readers residing in distant parts of the Colony may be un- aware of the fact that a new series musical entertainments is being provided. daily, at the Naval Yard Extension, and it may be desirable to make public the hour and nature of the performances, when, no doubt, a large and appreciative audience will attend.

Hitherto, musical effort on the harbour bas necessarily been confined to the display of the more powerful launches. but these now merely act as a pleasing and delicate accompaniment to the blast of the Naval Yard's new stean hooter, which gives dino sostenuto performances daily, at one o'clock and six o'clock. Performances aro occasionally given at other hours, but thou who wish to make certain of hearing the music should attend at the times mentioned Above.
