It may be remembered (says the Singu
pore Fine Press) that the French troop ship Pink-long was stranded at Pula Branti last March, and that the work of salvage was successfully carried out by the flotilla of the Tanjong Pagar Dock Company, Ltd This task was energetically superintended by Capt. James Benjamin Whyte, Coat d'Abbans, Consul-General of France, hay ingreported this matter to his Government, and made official proposals regarding the appropriate recognition of the services ren dered, the President of the French Republie has been pleased to grant to Capt. Whytá the golden cress of a Knight Officer of Col- onial Order of the Dragons of Annam. The brevet and the decoration, which is extreme- ly handsome, tavo now arrived at the French Consulate.
