AN M.P.'S CHINA' STORY.
in
My friend, Mr Yoxall (writes Mr Clemont Scott), is tolling this story, which he got first hand from a Stianes and Art Inspector who was presunt when the incident o curred. The scene was a chius, clay pit a certain part of England; the dramatis persone were the owner of the clay pit, a porcelain manufacturer from Germany, and an American china jobber. A chiun jobber, it appours, is '&'oute individual who buys up special lines in artistic chins and monopalises the sale of them in the United States. Said the Ameriam to the English- man: Well now, Mr, what's your price for that much of your clay? Ho indicated roughly a certain cubical measurement as ho spoke. Oh, shout five shillings, I should think, the English eaid.
And just about how many juge could you make out of that much the American Baid to the GermM.
*Oh, abent bre-and-twenty, I suppose, Enid Horr
What'd p-and-twenty of por jegs lotch on the English market the Ameri- tar west sa.
About five pounds, the German told him.
The American withdrew from his lips a very choica cigar und looked at it attentively for a piemont. Then, Well, I don't con sider you English real smart,' he said.
Why not?' the Englisban naked. Gulling a pices of Old England for five shillings and buying it tuck in jugs for five pounds: Why don't you ask your juga yourselves? the Yankee Paid.
The Englishunon was silent and the Ger Ban amiled,
Now, the American continued, waving his cigar, io toy country this bit of bug leaf's worth about a ha'penny of your money. Only we don't sell it, we put souie brains to it, and turn it out a cigar worth shilling. Seems to no it's smarter to sell- jays the clay.'
And again the German anled.
