Limited,"

The founders of the Company are pos semed of a plant of machinery complete in For the every particular, of the newest design and the finest workmanship and adapted for the making of all impiemonts used in the watch trade as well as the making of watches. It is well known that machinery has affected a complete rovolution in the watch trade and it is nonficiently expected that by availing itself of the comparatively cheap labour of this country this Compans will be able to supply the trade in all parts of the world with an article which for

excellence of workmanship and cheapnens

of price will defy competition.

Mr P. H. Wheeler, the Superintendent i of the Company, has been for many years

deraloping engaged in

walch-making machinery, and the testimonide from his former employers testify to his business i ability, skill and integrity. The machinery of which the founders are possessed w been perfected under his superintendance and a considerable part thereof is of his invention.

Bosider the Machinery the founders are possessed of ten thousand watches in various stages of completion which are the out-tyrn of the said Machinery; and mate- rial on hand sufficient to turn out about i twenty-five thousand more. It will thug be seen that it is not an untried plant which the founders have acquired, but one which has already given proofs of its excel- lence. It was only the advantage of obtaining a cheaper labour market than can be found in the United States that has induced them to work the business in

Japan.

passed just outside, near the Nine pine by an incoming steamer and is believed to have gone down under fall steam to Bangkok, Clearly, whatever the hitch in the negotiations may be the British authorities do not intend to to caught napping. I do not know for certain, but believe it probable that the

three Chinese nien-of-war lately in port have also gone south to watch over Chi neso interesta în Siam. No doubt, from Our Own Correspondent's point of view this was a bit of very good *copy,' but he ought to be told if he does not know better) to refrain from making statements of so grave a nature as the above, which, as he must have known, if he had his with about him had not the slightest foundation in "fact."

Our Own Correspondent' also refers to the postal administration of the Co- loay, and this gives him an opportunity of making a pun which must have com vulsed the readers of the North-China Daily News. He remarks that there is a very general feeling of dissatisfaq- tion with the Postal Service in this Co- Jouy which is of long standing,, and. recently "that" "Brownie, in his 2/34 weakly moans has been going with a 2/3 sharp stick for the Acting Postmaster.

a matter of fact, however, Brownis has been going for the Acting Post maater-Ganeral with a fairly heavy bludgeon, and we sincerely hope that he will continue to go for the postal authorities until a very great improve ment in the service is effected. space of three weeks is something worse than a fraud, and can hardly be gone for too severely. The writer in our northern contemporary says that this kind of thing is very annoying. We should call it simply intolerable. The so-called: postal service has become a byword in the colony. Allowing that, as

Our Own Correspondent suggests, the building, the staff and the delivery ser rice are all wholly inadequate for the purpose, this does not explain the uttar icompetence of the department. There's must also be either an almost total ingnorance of the methods on which they business of the Post Office should be conducted, on the part of those respon..." sible for it, or an equally reprehensible want of supervision over the details of the work for which the department exists. The postal service question is one which the Government ought to take up at ence, and, after taking adequate pro vision for it, insist on the work of the Post Office being properly carried out. A defective and unreliable postal sør.“ evice is really worse then no service at.
