Poon Dr. Doberok doesn't like news- papers. It seems that they bring to Daught

all bia efforts to keep this colony, and especially the regards the weather generally and skipping community, 'posted up as the movements of typhoons in parti- cular. In his annual report, which was laid on the table of the Legislative Council at list meeting, the Doctor says that copies of the China Const Meteorological Register which he rashly alleges contain weather-forecasts for the following twenty-four hours- are seat daily to the newspapers in time for the extra-number issued by each of them about noon; but, sad to say, none of the papers prints it before evening, or even next morning, where- by, of course, their subscribers lose say benefit they might derive from the weather foregrets. There is one charge against the newspapers, however, to which we are afraid we Dust humbly plead guilty. Dr Doberok 109 says in his report that the newspapers all print the register very incorrectly.' 106 If the charge has any reference to what 108 is called the Hongkong Register' we must submit to Doctor Doberok's con- demnation with meekness. And now, having made a full admis- sion of the only specific charge arer brought against as with reference to the incorrect printing of meteorological in- formation issued from the Observatory, we may proceed to deal with certain other romarks which the Director of that institution makes in his report. He rises to a considerable height in the art of making inaccurate statements to which we have already referred, but he attains kis zenith in the following saL. tences: They (the newspapers) issue news about typhoons which are (sic) de- rived from various sources and which are (sic) as a rule incorrect.
